Five Questions with Jim James
How long have you been making wood bowels and how did you get started?
My wife purchased my first wood lathe about nine years ago for my birthday and retirement and to keep me out of the house.
How long does a typical bowl take you to make?
Every bowl is different size, shape, type of wood and wet or dry. Most projects take six to 12 weeks taking time to understand the wood and craft bowls that best show the grain, bark and figuring come into the final design.
What is your best-selling item?
The market place is different where ever you are at the time. If I had to pick one the bark edge bowl with real turquoise inlay would be my favorite.
What would you like people to know about your craft?
There are many crafts at the shows we do. Being able to display one of the wonders that GOD has given us on this earth to share is our gift for others to see the natural beauty he has left for us.
What do you look forward to most about doing shows?
When we are doing a show, the guests that you meet and talk with are the most interesting part of the day. Sharing and being able to display the beautiful gift from nature long after the tree has passed is the most rewarding part of the event.
